EXPLORING METALINGUISTIC AWARENESS OF PRESERVICE TEACHERS (PSTS): LEARNING TO EDUCATE LINGUISTICALLY DIVERSE STUDENTS

This article investigates the function of Metalinguistic Awareness (MLA) in preparing preservice teachers (PSTs) to instruct students from diverse linguistic backgrounds. It examines level MLA among PSTs, their opportunities for learning and educating learners backgrounds, acquisition knowledge teaching skills. The literature review highlights positive effects on language instruction learning, including its advantages analyzing properties, enhancing proficiency, facilitating acquisition, cognitive development comprehension skills bilingual students. However, reveals a dearth PSTs need improve teacher education programs better support study proposes incorporation service-learning multicultural order enhance preparation emphasizing significance intercultural reflection accommodating English learners. process as well consequences inadequate training PSTs.
